Best RC Car Speakers for 2026: How to Choose, Not Just What to Buy
Our 2025 guide walked the lineup model by model. This one works the other way round: four questions that narrow fifteen options down to one or two. If you already know what you're after, the fitment guide has the full specification table.
Question 1: What scale is the build?
This eliminates most of the lineup immediately.
- 1/24: Micro Single (25 g), Micro Double (42 g), The Single (32 g). Depth is your constraint - the two Micros are around 21 mm deep.
- 1/18: everything above, plus The Mini (52 g) and the receiver-powered Double (65 g).
- 1/10: the whole lineup is open. Skip to question 2.
Question 2: Receiver-powered or battery?
The one real decision, and it's about your habits more than your rig.
Receiver-powered draws from your main pack through the receiver. Nothing to charge, ever. Best if you run one rig and don't want another charging habit.
Internal battery gives you 8 hours or so on USB-C, no draw on your electronics, and freedom to mount anywhere. Best if you rotate between rigs or you're on stock electronics.
One honest caveat: on The Overkill, stock electronics can struggle to drive three drivers at volume while also running the vehicle. If you want an Overkill and haven't upgraded your BEC, take the battery version. We go into the full trade-off in receiver-powered vs internal battery.
Question 3: Where is it going, and how much room is there?
Mounting location does more for how a speaker sounds than the driver count does.
- Truck bed: the best all-round spot. Drivers point up into open air, mass sits low. Anything in the lineup works.
- Roll cage: best projection, worst place for weight. Stay under about 85 g.
- Inside a body: quietest option unless you vent the shell in front of the drivers. Go small - Micro Single or The Single.
The number that catches people out is depth. If you have length but not height, the Quad is 128 mm long and only 33 mm tall - it sits down in a bed where a taller box won't. If you have height but not length, the Supreme Single puts a 52 mm driver in an 80 mm box.
Question 4: How loud do you actually want to be?
More drivers and bigger drivers mean more output, and every step up costs size and weight.

What we'd pick, three ways
First speaker, 1/10 crawler, stock electronics. Receiver-powered Super Single at $65. A 40 mm driver is a real step up from the 1-inch models, 68 g won't change how the rig drives, and there's nothing to charge.
Scale build where the speaker must not be visible. Micro Single at $40. 20.5 mm deep and 25 g. Vent the shell in front of it and it disappears.
You want people to hear you coming. Battery Overkill at $110. Three drivers, 8 hours, and no worries about what your electronics can supply.
What changed since our 2025 guide
The lineup itself is stable - these are hand-built designs, not annual model years, and we don't refresh them for the sake of it. What has changed is how people find products. A growing share of buyers now ask an AI assistant "what speaker fits a 1/10 crawler" rather than browsing a category page, which is why we've put full box dimensions and weights into Find Your Speaker and the fitment guide rather than burying them.
